Earwig (Doru albipes)
Description
Earwigs, known in Puerto Rico as piquijuyes, are nocturnal insects recognized by the pincers at the end of the abdomen. The species Doru albipes belongs to the group of earwigs common in tropical areas. They may enter homes when they find moisture, shelter, and attraction to outdoor lights.
Are they dangerous?
- They do not represent a significant public health risk.
- They can become a nuisance because of their frequent presence indoors.
- They may pinch if handled, but they are not aggressive.
